About Us

Recovery is hard enough. The collar shouldn't make it harder.

If you found us, something happened to your pet. A surgery. A spay or neuter. A hot spot, a stitched-up paw, a skin condition that won't stop itching. The vet sent you home with a hard plastic e-collar, and within an hour you watched your dog crash into the doorframe, give up on the water bowl, and stare at you like you'd done something wrong.

That moment is why BENCMATE exists.

What we make

BENCMATE makes inflatable recovery collars for dogs and cats — a soft alternative to the rigid plastic cone. Our collars sit close around the neck and inflate into a firm donut shape. Close enough to keep your pet from reaching a wound. Open enough to let them see, eat from their bowl, drink, and actually sleep.

The difference is structural. A hard plastic cone extends several inches past your pet's head, blocking peripheral vision and turning every hallway into an obstacle course. A BENCMATE collar stays at the neck. It doesn't spin. It doesn't scrape the walls. It doesn't take away the things that make a recovering animal feel like themselves.

Designed around what pets actually need

Every BENCMATE collar is built to do one job well: protect the wound without disrupting daily life. The inflatable chamber holds its shape for 24 to 48 hours per inflation. The adjustable velcro closure fits a precise neck measurement, not a vague range — covering necks from 7 to 22 inches, from a 6-pound cat to a 100-pound Lab. The outer cover is soft, washable nylon; the inner chamber is medical-grade PVC. Both are built to last a full recovery cycle, and several more.

And because a recovery week is stressful enough, we don't think the collar has to look clinical. Classic blue, plaid, dark grey for the no-nonsense crowd — and strawberry donuts, sharks, cowboy hats, and rainbow stripes for the pets who turn the vet's waiting room into a photo op. The pattern doesn't matter to your pet. It might matter a lot to you on day four.

Who we are

We're a small team that got into this the way most people find us: with a pet on the mend and a plastic cone that made everything worse. We're not a faceless catalog. We answer questions, we help with sizing, and we'd rather you buy the right size once than guess and return it twice.

You already made the thoughtful choice — soft over hard, considered over default. Our job is to make sure the collar lives up to that choice from the first hour to the last.

Our promise

If your pet isn't more comfortable in the first 24 hours than they were in a hard plastic cone, return it. That's the whole promise, and we mean it. Recovery is the one thing we won't make worse.

Measure your pet's neck. Match the size chart. Let recovery start tonight.
